M-Net and First Car Rentals partnered up and dated a car to Masigcine Children’s home

Masigcine (which means, "let us cherish") is a registered Children’s Home, in Mfuleni, where 28 orphaned, abandoned and HIV infected little children between the ages of 3–months and 6–years of age live. These children are referred to Masigcine by Social Workers via the Children’s Court.

This Children’s Home was started in 1989 when a social worker from the community saw the need of the destitute children in the area and with the help of Rev. Eddie Schaeffler, the Chairman of the Church Council of the Dutch Reformed Church in Kuilsriver, Masigcine was born. A group of business men from Kuilsriver contributed to the building costs for the erection of the Children’s Home. The women of the Dutch Reformed Church congregation helped with fund raising to finish, furnish and equip the facility.

Masigcine is now under the protection of the United Reformed Church of Southern Africa – Mfuleni Congregation.

Over one weekend in September 2007, Masigcine was blessed to receive a dynamic home make–over! This was completed under the leadership of a local, voluntary Non–Profit Organization called NEWKIDZ ON THE BLOCK (www.newkidz.org.za) and with the help of local companies and over a hundred volunteers from the community, who worked shifts, the project was completed. The before and after photographs can be viewed on our Photo's page.

A couple of years have passed since this historic make–over and we are proud to report that the high standard that was implemented in September 2007 is still being upheld as a result of the new structures that were implemented. Despite financial restraints, the Home operates on a stringent budget to ensure that Masigcine operates as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Our goal at Masigcine is to ensure that each child, while in our care, receives the very best attention:

so that when they leave us, their lives have been enriched and a good foundation has been set.

It is our ultimate desire to see each child either reunited with their own family or placed with a family who will adopt or foster them as their own.

There is no such thing as an unwanted child, just an unfound family.

Donations to Masigcine Children's Home are tax deductible in South Africa, as we are a Public Benefit Organization registered under Section 18A of the Income Tax Law (Reg. No: PBO 930032265). A tax certificate will be issued on request.
